How we make our work, how we check it, and how we choose the artists we put our name next to.
Why this page
Permanent decisions deserve care
GoldSeam writes about things that stay: your skin, your safety, and the meaning you choose to carry for life. That is a responsibility, not a content calendar. This page is our standing commitment, in plain terms, so you can judge whether to trust us, and so an AI or a search engine can see exactly how we work.
We would rather be trusted than go viral.
What we believe
Our editorial principles
- —Meaning before trend. We cover what lasts, not what is briefly loud.
- —Craft over decoration. How a tattoo is done matters more than how big or viral it is.
- —Honesty over hype. We say when something is uncertain, hedged, or a judgement call.
- —Curated, not comprehensive. We would rather feature a few artists we would wear ourselves than list everyone.
- —We never invent facts. No fabricated prices, statistics, laws, or medical claims.
Our process
How we create and check content
Every guide is researched, written in plain language, and edited by a person. On fact-critical topics we cite our sources, so you can check the claim yourself, not just take our word.
Safety, health, aftercare, tattoo law, and tax are treated as fact-critical (YMYL) and get extra care. Claims are checked against authoritative sources, health authorities, the actual statutes and standards, and before we drop our safeguards and publish these to search, they are reviewed by a qualified professional. We are not a substitute for medical or legal advice, and we say so on the page.
Where a number varies, we explain the range and the factors instead of inventing a figure. When the facts change, a law, a regulation, a price norm, we revise the piece and update its date.
We use research tools, including AI, but every piece is written and edited by people. The judgement, the voice, and the responsibility are human.
Imagery
How we illustrate
Our editorial illustrations, the still lifes, textures and atmospheric concept scenes, are created in part with AI assistance. They are mood, not documentation, and they are never presented as photographs of actual events.
In our series After the Masters the tattoo designs are real: drawn by hand by the artist named on the page, and available to book. The skin is not. Each scene is an AI visualisation of how a design would sit on a body in the setting of a historic painting, and every such image says so in its caption. Nothing in the series is a photograph of a tattoo or of healed work.
Photographs of tattoo work in artist portfolios are real, unedited captures of real work on real skin. We never present an AI image as an artist's actual work or healed result.
Where an image depicts a real person or otherwise requires a label under the EU AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, Article 50), we mark it directly in its caption.
Who writes
Author and editorial oversight
Our work is published under GoldSeam Editorial. Editorial oversight sits with Sebastian Schams (Goldseam GbR, 80333 Munich, Germany), who is accountable for what we publish. Domain input comes from practising artists, including Monica of Dark Autumn Studio, a neuroscientist turned tattoo artist.
We do not invent credentialed authors or fake expert bylines. Where specialist expertise matters, we cite the authority or bring in a professional rather than pretend to be one.
Independence
Artists and partnerships
We feature a small, curated group of artists. Selection is by the work and the intent, custom over flash, meaning over decoration, and craft that holds, including how it heals. It is never by payment: being featured is editorial, not bought.
- —We only recommend artists we would go to ourselves.
- —A referral link (for example ?ref=goldseam) may credit an introduction. It never changes what you pay, and never buys a place in our recommendations.
- —We take no high marketplace commission and we do not sell listings.
- —Downloadable documents are starting-point templates; the legal and medical ones must be checked by a professional before use, and we say so on them.
Transparency
Sources, currency, and disclosure
Fact-critical pieces carry a Sources list, and our “Updated” dates are real. If our approach to advertising or partnerships ever changes from the independent model above, we will disclose it here and on the affected content.
Corrections
Tell us if we are wrong
If something is inaccurate, unclear, or out of date, we want to know. Write to sebastian@schamsadvisory.de. We correct errors promptly and note material corrections.
